I have made the decision that 2011 will be the year I start attempting to do something with the dozens of scripts sitting pretty on my hard drive It's time to get my work out there and see if I can get some sort of professional feedback and with any luck, maybe even a job =) With that in mind, I was wondering how many amongst us are anticipating one day doing the same thing? Or how many of us have already made attempts at breaking into the industry? How many write simply for fun and how many intend to go places with their writing? What is your plan of action for furthering your talent?

You wanna' get a name in the biz, start looking for competitions -- best place to get started. Sign up with agencies, cold-calling. If you're serious about, just keep at it. that's what I was told anyway

According to what I know about British television, the industry expects the writers to come to them rather than through any sort of agency. Am perfecting my calling card script atm and then will send it to the appropriate people at the BBC/Channel 4 etc . . . Although agencies are also on the cards as well as script writing competitions which are very frequent I know of I've just never entered... Till now!
Anyhoo, this is more about me being interested in what YOU guys intend to do with your futures as potential writers.

I wanna' write stuff. That's about as far as I've got. I still got another few months at Uni before I think too much about it all.

I can't wait until I can actually start working toward going somewhere with my writing. Atm it's just goof off and finish high school, but once I get to college, I'm gonna work my ass off to get to where I want to be.
Television is my main priority, I want to work in a writer's room and develop a television series. ;D

For a little while a couple of months back, I thought of submitting one of my RU series to actual Australian television (most likely Trauma Unit, as there isn't a primetime medical drama on here at the moment and there's too many Golden Beach-esque shows), but the odds of me actually being considered, and being a good enough writer to be considered, and the fact that I'm 15 years old, kind of stopped me. I guess age doesn't always matter, but still. So I'm sticking to RU, finishing high school, and then Uni, and seeing what happens.

For now, writing is just my back-up. But, I try to write as much as I can.

I think you'd be really surprised how much those odds would you be in your favour. I don't know about Australia, but I know that in England the younger the better!

Really? Sounds like I'm moving to England, then! Haha. I really don't know...it would be pretty awesome to have a series I created and wrote on television. I may have to make this my mission in 2011 as well? The trouble is, the people who write the dramas here in Australia are all adults, and professionals, and have been doing it for years. Apart from little bits and pieces beforehand, Golden Beach is the first, big committed piece of writing I've done, and I started it late December 2008-early January 2009. Uh, I dunno. I guess we can't all have our writings onto TV straight away, can we? Gotta start somewhere.
