Blake, you're actually amazing. Huge amount of respect to anyone who protects their country.

Dean, what about that one time you said you saw a black man advancing toward you. Said you saw your eyes flash before your eyes, but in the end he just wanted to know where the local McDonalds was? Pretty scary shiz

Jester, @blake I was about 8 to 10 blocks north on West Broadway when the first plane hit. I was having breakfast with colleagues. We went outside and we could see the smoke. We really didn't feel in danger until the second plane hit. Then we realized, shit, NYC is probably being attacked. Police urged us to keep walking out of Lower Manhattan. It was surreal and scary. We kept thinking more planes are going to crash, maybe the Empire State Building, maybe Times Square and we were so close to the crosshairs. By the time the towers collapsed we were almost in Times Square. Another scary part was bypassing some assholes scuffling with a group of Muslims. Calling them bastards and threatening them. That was a scary situation and all I kept thinking was get me the hell out of this city and back to New England. So while it wasn't near death as far as the WTC goes, the whole ordeal of not knowing what's really going on and the fear of more attacks and being so close to it made me feel like my life was endanger. Getting out of the city was a nightmare. What is normally an hour ride by train to get into the city took around 8 hours to get home.

Jesus, I can imagine. My dad's train was bombed on 7/7 (he'd taken the day off work because he pulled a muscle) but I couldn't contact him all day and knowing that it was his usual train which was bombed... Ugh.
But yeah, that not knowing fear; you can't relax. Just mass confusion. It must have been horrible. Like a nightmare.
