Honestly, I've seen both shows a lot and I have to say that I think Leno is funnier. IMO, Conan's humor is a bit too weird for me. I think they're both talented, but I don't get why people are bashing Jay Leno. From what I've heard he's just as unhappy with NBC as Conan is. btw - "Conan" is misspelled as "Canon" in the title.

What's Leno supposed to do, stop being the better comedian? Also, completely agree about Conan's humor being "weird." I don't understand what's supposed to be funny about his odd little dances and gestures.

Hold on... Conan's supposed to be funny? Holy crow!!!! That's news to me ;D I've seen his show a few times and never once found it funny! Leno is funnier, but still not laugh out loud funny. I'm still gonna have to say Leno though hahaha, Conan O'Brien funny.. that's like Bruce Dickinson NOT being awesome. 'Cause seriously.. Bruce Dickinson is awesome... and that makes Conan O'Brien NOT funny

Leno is annoying. Conan is a pretty funny. Kimmel is too - sometimes. Letterman is just icky. And, Dom - I don't think people are really being that serious. So... you might need to be the one who needs to chill. lol

Kimmel for the win.
I personally can't tell the difference between Leno and Conan. I've seen the both of them... I've laughed equally at both Conan and Leno, although Conan's "weird" humor is what would make me choose between Leno and Conan.

Conan is an incredibly gifted comedian/writer. (His writers strike shows are amazing television; those eps would be my recomendation for anyone who needs proof) His style of comedy just appeals to me i guess. Leno comes off as a prop comedian and an average one at that "hey guys check out these idiots i found on the street LOLZ""Hey kev check out this video LOOLOLOL" Conan (probably because he started off and still is a writer) is much more sketch/character based, it, more so than others, is a 'written' variety show. Late Night got me through school and i was looking forward for The Tonight Show (with Conan) to get me through many more years.
The thing with Leno is, and there is a really big history of this is that he comes off as a bit of a weasel, in 1993 and now. I recomend reading, for anyone interested, "The Late Shift"which documents the first 'Late Night War' Leno does not come off well. he eavesdropped executive meetings, subtely forced Carson into retirement and stole segments off Letterman and Stern and claimed them as his own. Thats just naming a few too.
Personally, i believe Leno has his role in this, not as much as NBC, but he wanted Tonight back very badly. IMO saying that he would take The Tonight Show back openly in an interview last year is one of the things he did to undermine Conan. His primetime hour stole Mr. O'Brien's spotlight, he had no lead-in whatsoever and Leno took most of his audience with him, leaving Conan in a bad position.
There also is the fact that yes, Conan is too 'out there' for 11:30 and middle america. People like the simple jokes, not really having to think. And Tonight Show Conan was VERY toned down from his Late Night antics. But seven months isn't long enough to build an audience in late night, and history shows that.
Oh and ANYONE who doesnt like Conan O'Brien is a criminal because he wrote "Marge Vs the Monorail" and "Homer Goes to College" Two of the absolute greatest Simpsons episodes ever.
Sooooo yeah.... Team Conan!!!

^You make some good points. It's true that Leno's not a great guy, and I didn't realize that Conan wrote the monorail episode--that's definitely worth a few points in my book.
I do want to say though, that I think Conan's problem was more than just being too "out there" for middle america. I'm 17, I live on the West Coast, and I enjoy subtle humor--but I still didn't like Conan. From what I saw of him on the Tonight Show, I actually thought his material was pretty similar to Leno's, but his delivery just made me cringe again and again. I'd always watched Leno at 11:30, but I switched to Letterman a few weeks after Conan started.
To each his own, I suppose.

I think it was very telling how Leno treated the situation.
