I wrote this as a reaction to Obama's speech- an informal class assignment. Read here

I just thought it was funny that Obama brought God into schools and everyone was okay with it.

Whilst I thought it was incredibly well written and bought up some very mature points for someone as young as you, I'm a bit confused...
...this isn't a reflection on what Obama said, but more of your opinion on what other people thought of the speech.
I suppose on some level, that it helps to analyse what others have said about the speech, and is a different way of looking at it, bringing up an entirely new argument.

Yeah - not really sure you talked that much about the speech at all. I did not see any specifics or anything - you mostly talked about bias. And I think the reason a lot of parents got upset was not Obama himself, but the mandatory requirement for kids to listen to him - they felt like their right as parents was being violated. You should address the logic of the other side before discarding them as the angry republican right. That way you come off like you - yourself - are not bias.

A lot of schools didn't show it, and in fact I didn't see it until a day later, on YouTube. This same thing; broadcasting to schools to give a speech, happened twice before. Ronald Reagan, and George H.W. Bush, both with "lesson" plans and things that parents complained about now. Did they complain about it then? No. Because it's politics, not about "our children".

Our school hasn't even showed us the damned speech yet.
It's obviously about politics, because if it's otherwise, than this is a sad nation we live in in which either:
A) People can't trust the President (after the last President we had, Obama's 10x more trustworthy)
or
B) People still can't swallow the fact that an African-American man is President.
It seems the be that politics is the reason why so many parents freaked over Obama's speech. If it's one of the two reasons above, I'm gravely disappointed with the people of this country.

I guess. I heard it was mandatory in some schools, but I think it was just the media hype. That's probably the real source of the reason. I personally had no problem with it, but if a parent wanted their child to not see Obama's speech I don't think it was necessarily about politics, trust, or racial issues. Maybe just out of spite - lol. I don't know, I'm not going to judge a person on it. I actually think, if you have issues with Obama (like me) you could use this as a good teaching moment for your child.

To clarify, the objective here was to make a statement about American Politics- which I think I did.

Obama's speech as the usage of God. I thought it was going to cause more controversy.

I really don't remember that. Just out of curiosity, I looked at the full text version of Obama's speech. The word "god", "religion" do not appear anywhere.

So my message was that American Politics thrive upon a system of bias, hypocrisy and deceit and if one changes that to be morally correct they destroy the foundation of our election process and political machine.

And the very end he said "God bless you and God bless America". Nothing major - I know. But I honestly thought SOMEONE out there was going to blow it out of proportion sooner or later because it was in a public school. I guess not.

Everybody says that at the end of every speech.
