New URL

Heya guys so it's possible for me to change the URL of this forum to something else. Changing our URL to something more indicative of what this forum actually is will help us increase awareness and should boost our memberbase considerably (or at least in theory!). For this reason I'm leaning towards the writersunite version rather than the misspell.

It would only cost me a small fee and for a short period of time after the URL is changed, all links to danhoger will be seamlessly redirected to the new url, so there's nothing to worry about there.

While I would much prefer the misspell simply for the lulz factor, I think it makes more sense to go with the more traditional route.

But this place is the R.U., the W.U. makes us sound 80. I'd rather be Righters Untie and get rid of the misspell logo thing than be Writers Unite of which there are probably loads of similiarly named sites. Plus, we always hate newcomers here (TStape, Connor, Ceb, Indy) so it's hardly a matter of trying to get new blood.

Gotta agree with Tafka on this. This place has been called RU for the longest time and I'm sticking with it. Not changing it, don't approve either. Besides, he speaks the truth. Strangers are treated pretty shitty here. Love you, Connor.

Besides, Dan created this place. The least we can do for the man is keep honoring his name for bringing us all together. I wouldn't change it in the slightest. It's fine the way it is. If people can find us, good, then they deserve a spot here. Even if we treat them like shit.

Writers Unite, really? The WUN looks and sounds ridiculous, and the WUM loses its meaning.  The Rightees would become the Writees? So unneccesary to change the name. The site would lose the quirky title and sound so drab and uninteresting..... Sure, the misspelling might sound tacky, whatever, but thats the way its been.  Writers Unite is so boring and soulless to me...  So thats a big "hell no" from me.

Anyway, the url doesnt matter to me. I'm used to danhoger.proboards.com but i wouldnt be opposed to rightersuntie.proboards.com simply because this site has branched much from its initial conception and the name "danhoger" just doesnt have much relevance anymore. Though im so used to typing it in that even if it does change, i will still be typing in "danhoger.proboards.com" and end up redirected here so it just isnt that big a deal lol....  as long as Writers Unite doesnt happen.

Knowing that, keep it to rightersuntie.proboards.com. I support my fellow RUers (...WUers? Fuck off) and refuse to acknowledge that Writers Untie was even suggested.

Writer's Unite seems to make sense. It would definitely draw in more writers. And honestly, a name change doesn't really make it drab or uninteresting, only the content hosted could do that. It seems there's a good collection of work here so I doubt that's the problem.

After being banned from the chatbox, for what has to be the third time with no real reason besides voicing an opinion. The name doesn't mean much to the actual site's meaning. Granted to the user's it does which is why I don't really care either what the name change would mean. People seem to be worked up about it pretty damn bad so you might as well just keep it. The only thing that might be nice is to just be a little more welcoming be I know that's not an option, so whatever. Just voting in it all, that's all.

Changing it to Writers Unite won't work because there is already a Writers Unite and we'd be lost in a sea of writing sites similar to this one.

Unless someone can give me a damn good reason to change it (apart from this rubbish 'it'll bring in new people', it should not happen. This isn't a generic Writers Unite, we're not like other sites out there and we're better than all of 'em.

Well then, if no one wants a change then don't change it. Seems as simple as that. I know that the site itself can give more than the title can, and that's all I really have to say about that.

I just hate the fact that it's like this is a board that survived on pretty much having a few people around and now it's supposed to become some mass fanboard owned by Bill Gates and Microsoft because the name gets watered down to one that loads of other sites use. We're the only R.U. around here and given how we've been here 4 years as it, the whole "I DON'T SEE WHY CHANGING IT IS SUCH A BIG DEAL!" is just lame because why even change it in the first place? Advertising is the downfall of this site, not the URL or the name and I don't really see it becoming major because there's mainstream boards people pay to be on over us, we're just a small fish in a big pond and it's how it's always been.

My main issue is the handling of this situation. What is he point of mods around here? This wasn't run through the Moderation boars first. Some new membr (Connor for fucks sake) could pop in, vote, & have the same say as the mods. That doesnt sit right with me. I apppreciate your attempt at a democracy with group decisions but why not run this through the mods board first?
