What is RU CON? The Final Countdown!

RU-Con will be a six-day event, which will showcase up-and-coming pilots, series and movies on the RUN. Covering all genres and hopefully featuring prominent and low-key RUN writers alike!

Got a brand new idea for a pilot? Want to build excitement for a new show or series with an extract from the script? Want to show off never-before-seen posters or video trailers to pump up the hype for your creation? Or maybe you want to go a more personal route and provide some insight into the creation behind your show with a short interview or Q+A session? Or maaaaybe you simply want to make a special announcement! Whatever you want to do, do it at RU-Con!

When Is It?
RU-Con will take place Monday 17th September - Sunday 23rd September. Different events will take place on each day.

How Do I Get Involved?
Send me a PM saying what sort of event(s) you'd like to host. Do you want to unveil a new episode during RU-Con or show off a trailer you've made especially? At this time I don't need the details of the event (i.e. if you want to release a pilot, I don't need to see the pilot yet), but what I do need is a date when you'd like to host the event. Once you've confirmed what it is you want to do at RU-Con and when we can get to work...

Soooo I Can Do Multiple Things?
Sure! In fact that's encouraged. Do something for each of your shows and then some! If you want to do a lot of things for a certain show then you can host your own "Booth" dedicated to that show, e.g. Cherry Hill Booth. All your announcements and releases related to Cherry Booth would then be showcased under the same event and date.

Okay, So I Know What I Want To Do, And When... Now What?
Now get to working on whatever it is you want to do - that new pilot isn't going to write itself after all. You have two months until RU-Con launches which should be plenty of time! Around a week before the event I'll be on your cases for you to produce the goods.

What Else Is Happening?
Along with the stuff you guys release there'll also be a Review Race, User's Choice Awards and Con Jobs. Everything you do during RU Con will earn you RU Points which can be exchanged for real life prizes at the end of the year.

What Prizes Are Up For Grabs?

As you may or may not be aware there are several prizes available during this year's RU Con. Most prizes are in the form of RU Points... Remember, at the end of 2012 the person with the most RU Points will be eligible for some great prizes, including a professionally printed and published script of their choice (which in my opinion, is a fine prize). However RU Con will have other goods on offer other than just RU Points...

RUIQ
This quiz will give members the chance to increase their RU Points to a competitive level simply by testing their knowledge of the shows airing on RUN.

Treasure Trove
The Treasure Trove will hold a mysterious selection of prizes, given out during RU Con on a first come first serve basis. The prizes may be bad or they may not... Included amongst the "good" prizes are... A personalised (and expensive...) RU pen! A personalised RU mug! A A5 glossy VOID poster autographed by the creator, Jester!

User's Choice Awards
The winners of each genre will become the official "sponsor" of said genre on the site (what this means exactly will become clear after RU Con). And as for Best of RUN... WELL!

Con Jobs
The prizes for completing a Con Job are simply RU Points, but seen as this is all stuff you'll be doing naturally this is the easiest way of obtaining Points.

Review Race
As well as obtaining RU Points for your reviews, the winner of the race will win an Amazon Gift Card worth at least $30/£30 to spend on whatever the fuck they want. Oooh yeah.

Yes I know the countdown timer is wrong (as of writing this it says the Con starts in 6 hours, that's a lie, it starts in 1 day and 6 hours. Ahem.)

When the RU Con starts here's what to expect and what you guys will need to do:

Review Race 2012
Yay! Start reviewing and racking up points. Most points earned via reviews means you win the Review Race and the smexy prize. More information here. If you have any concerns or queries about the rules of the Review Race please address them now in appropriate thread - once the RU Con starts the rules cannot be changed!

User's Choice Awards
Please get your votes in now. When RU Con starts the winners of each genre will be announced, any ties will be resolved and the Best of RUN vote will be going live! Even if you haven't read every single script that's no reason not to vote - take the time to check out each thing, see the quality and effort that's been poured into each show. Every show is deserving (but only one can be crowned!)

RUIQ
More on this at the time, but essentially it's a bit of a fun quiz which gives members lagging in RU Points a chance to double or triple their scores and get to the top of the leaderboard.

Treasure Trove
This will be opened during RU Con and RU Con only. Inside a whole load of treasure (and penalties) await! More on how this will work at the time.

"That's great and all but uh, what about the Booths?"

On the day you've chosen for your Booth, a thread will be created in the Convention Centre board, themed and decorated accordingly! Once your Booth thread has been created (which will come ready made with a Q+A thread) it's yours to do with whatever you please. Make it creative - images, videos, stupid little pretend interviews, whatever you want - I know for mine I'll be doing a pretend real casting panel.

Q+A? How will these work?
People ask you questions and you answer them! Answer them in whatever medium you like - again, be creative. Make a video, answer as the director or a cast member, have fun with it. You're selling your show here to people who may not be sure if they fancy reading it or not. Why shouldn't they read it? Why should they?!

As with previous Q+A it's expected you'll be asked questions throughout the Con. It's up to you whether you answer them immediately or stockpile them up till the end and answer on the last day!

Lastly - Con Jobs
Loads of RU Points to accumulate by completing Con Jobs. Check out the thread to see what you need to do to get to the top of the leaderboard.
