1. Vinos Jaded was an usual because the intention would be that he was HEAVILY hinted to be Bowie himself, but at the same time I never really wanted him to be. He was meant to represent Bowie (in the same way the show did too) and he acted like this God-like character who stepped in and out of the characters lives. Fuck knows what my plan was there haha.
It was a precious balance though because VOID at first appeared to be set in such a distant setting to our earth. Then episode 5 comes along and slams in this Bowie album, a very real thing. A material possession from OUR earth. So then it becomes clear that VOID is tied to our reality pretty strongly. So maybe Vinos Jaded is Bowie? Who knows?
Also, for clarity, Vinos is also an older "Bewlay", Ziggy's brother from episode 5. Bewlay's name was never said, I only called him Bewlay in the film. Also, he was into mime (as was Bowie) and always weared dark glasses, hiding his eyes (as did Vinos).
I had that ending with Vinos taking off his glasses to reveal his eyes planned from day one though.
2. Nahhh, I just wished I'd expanded it so I could fit in Joe the Lion who was a sub human character who had a human zoo. Yup, he'd collect humans and keep em in a zoo for display.
There was a few other characters, like Halloween Jack (he's a real cool Cat) whom I never got around too either. Meh, there's always next year...
3. Ermmmm, did I find it difficult? Nope. The Long Coats is once again drastically different from both Inferno and VOID. I love starting a new project and wondering where to go with it. I think VOID showed off my skills for planning. Inferno I think showed more of my writing capabilities. Every show I do will hopefully be drastically different from the last. Things get ever so boring, darling. I approach every show from a different angle. I shake it up, baby.
4. Have I ever considered doing something that lasts more than one season? I'm actually close to breaking Inferno into two 6 episode seasons. I have FIVE seasons planned for Roúge. That's five seperate stories/ cases for the man to dive into, but I highly doubt I'll ever write more than one. I have all five cases planned out to a T though. So much so that when I release Red&Black there will actually be some foreshadowing to season 5 (in the event I ever write it) just in case
.
I do get bored easily. I wonder, I drift, I get the creative bug and I wanna jump into something fresh and exciting so soon. It's a curse really.
5. Main inspiration for Inferno? I've always loved religious stories. I find them the most bloodiest, revenge filled stories ever. My curiosity lead me to look into where our modern interpretation of some religions aspects come from. The Bible never really describes hell, for example, or even the Devil. Most of that stuff comes from literature. Poets like Virgil, Dante, Milton etc completely changed the way the world see's the Devil. Dante changed the way we see Hell. Milton actually gave Lucifer his entire amazing backstory in Paradise Lost.
In fact, according to the Bible, Angels don't have wings... That idea came from Michelangelo (I think...). So it shows the power of the Arts really. So with Inferno, I wanted to take those inspirations and make them contemporary, show them in a modern setting. The idea was; "how would Dante have seen Hell if he was alive and writing today?". Hopefully, I have achieved this...
6. Oooo, what am I most proud of? Good question. Erm... I have no idea. I really don't. I'm still oddly and fiercely proud of ORCUS. No one has watched it but WHATEVS! It's a short 14min surrealist piece which only I will ever understand... I'd like to remake it properly this winter with my professional kit. At the time I had a shit cheap camera and even shitter editing system...
FANKS FOR THE QUESTIONS, JOHNO! Any more? <3
