Righteo, so today in exactly 12 hours from writing this sentence, SONY is 99.5% likely to reveal their Playstation 4 home console. The second in the Generation 8 cycle (although, I still don't think the WiiU is entirely next gen).
SONY got off to a very shaky start with the PS3. It launched completely unprepared and lacked major AAA title support. Fast forward 7 years and the PS3 is a force to be reckoned with. The PS3 boasts a huge catalogue of exclusive titles over it's nearest competitor, the XBOX 360.
SONY's decision to support the Blu Ray format (which subsequently won the format war) was a wise one, showing once again that SONY home consoles plan for the future.
I expect the PS4 (or whatever it'll be called) will support 4K resolution. That seems to be SONY's biggest concern in the future of their TV market right now.
OoOOOOoooOooooo, I'm so so excited. I could barely sleep last night. I'm an avid gamer, and have been since I was a wee lad.
MY BODY IS READY!

No matter the specs, Wii U IS Gen 8. It's about the cycle of consoles, NOT the specs... Even if it isn't up to par with the PS4 and Xbox 720 consoles, the system is a new cycle with new games and new hardware. It's not a Wii redesign, it's a whole new console. Not exactly as excited as you, but I shall be keeping my eyes open for this announcement

Just for fun!

It's not just me for the record. There is a divide in the industry. Some people think the WiiU was built to rival current software, thus is still current gen. Others say it's clearly next gen. Some people think Nintendo exist in their own generation bubble and are on Gen 4 in their own little world. Personally, I see it as a 7.5.

Still hate the controller design. Looks like a Dreamcast controller's cousin who lost a lot of weight during the summer. I will give you this: the hardware on that thing is marvelous, but I still remain a Microsoft asskisser and from what's been "leaked" (c'mon, we didn't think there really was a leak?), well, this thing is packing a punch. Nintendo a dummy for leaping the boat too quickly.
I appreciate what the WiiU (god, still an awful name) is doing, but they have nothing SO FAR. E3 is going to be a major turning point. Their current line-up, lack of impressive HD mechanics, etc, etc, geekrant, etc is gonna prove to be quite the dissapointment when the PS4/720 come exploding in, guns a-blazing. The only reason I find myself wanting a WiiU currently is because of PIKMIN 3. Nintendo currently hugging on tightly to the Nintendo 3DS.

Despite all the hate for it, I'm going to be getting a Wii U soon. This is just for the opportunity to play games I haven't had the chance to play before in their full condition (Mass Effect 3, I'm looking at you), and for exclusives like ZombiU, Pikmin 3, the new Zelda, Smash Bros. & Mario --- aka the torrent of amazing first-party games that I know I'll have a blast with --- so the current drought of games isn't a worry for me because I know I'll get my use out of it eventually. People said the same thing about the 3DS when it first launched: No games, skepticism about being overpriced, and fear that it couldn't live up to the Vita. Now look, Nintendo has once again proved it dominates the handheld market with amazing support for the system, and a slew of major releases coming throughout the year. Like you mentioned, Nintendo has a chance to prove its worth in this console war at this year's E3. They're the wildcard here, I'm interested to see how they handle it.
On the Sony/Microsoft front, I will wait to make up my mind when we hear news about the new 'box. But to be painfully honest, Sony's exclusives have never been my cup of tea, really. I literally only bought PS3 for The Last of Us, because the presentation at E3 blew me away so much. I literally never use the thing, it only sits, awaiting The Last of Us to finally arrive, lol. Nothing at this presentation grabbed me like their E3 presentation did. And I agree on the controller: Hideous. Maybe they'll do away with it like they did the horrific beta "Boomerang" controller for the PS3...
I plan on only buying two systems, one more decision to make and I'm going to probably be basing it on exclusives that we'll see from each of the systems so I'm keeping my eye out for Microsoft's announcement. Because, honestly, if this gen ends up anything like the current one, we'll be seeing a lot of cross-platform games and I'm not going to spend the money on a system that's going to collect dust like my PS3 is right now. And while the Wii I own also collects dust now, I played the hell out of that thing in its glory days.
Overall, an interesting event. The specs are impressive, but specs have never been something I've ever cared about. I'm not a faithful follower of the Infamous/Killzone series, so I can play their current games just fine, Watch Dogs will be on every system, Destiny will be multi-platform as well, and the other games didn't exactly interest me so the event didn't WOW me on that front. But like I said, I'm keeping an open mind and I'm excited to see what each of these companies has in store for E3! I'm excited for all three of these systems, seems like it will be an amazing generation of consoles! If only I could afford them all, but since I can't, there can only be two...
Let the battle begin: Sony vs. Microsoft! -ding-

Y'know, the controller just looks the exact same as the current controller, except the Start/Select area has been replaced with a touch pad. They clearly learnt from their mistake when they showed off the boomerang controller and stuck with the same tried-and-tested design. So long as I hold it the same, it feels the same, and I have the same ease of access over the controls, I have no problemos here ^^!

I love the controller, personally. I like the light bar a lot. I imagine something similar will be on the actual Box when the finally show it.
The PS4 is the gaming console of the next generation. You want TV on your console? Then the 720 is for you. You want endless gaming possibilities, then it's the PS4. Can't wait to see what the other SONY owned studios are up to.
