Alright boys and occasional girl, let's get some activity back on this site, yus?
Simple question; Who are your favourite Heroes and Villains of film and the RUiverse?
FILM
Hero
Film; Life is Beautiful
Character; Guido Orefice played by Roberto Benigni
SPOILERS AHEAD--- Buongiorno Principessa! I'm already choking up thinking about it. "Life is Beautiful" is one of my favourite films of all time. The character of Guido isn't your typical hero. He doesn't have super strength, he doesn't save lives in the traditional sense. Guido is a simple hero, a champion of love who reminds us that even in the darkest of days life is beautiful (welling up now). Guido spends the first half of "Life is Beautiful" chasing the girl in a series of charming comic Peter Sellers like scenarios. He finally wins her over when the film fast forwards a few years. Now blessed with a son Guido finds himself and his family taken to a concentration camp by the Nazi's. Guido's hero element comes from the beauty in which he sacrifices himself to preserve the health, happiness and innocence of his son. He lies to the little boy explaining that the camp is all just a game. Guido's final moments see him putting his son in hiding to protect him as the Nazi's begin mass extermination as the American forces are near. Guido then faces his death as he is confronted by a Nazi shoulder. Aware that his son is watching, Guido smiles and acts out a silly walk as if to say; "Don't be afraid son. It's just a game." A lone gun shot ends Guido's life. But his love lives on inside of his son and wife.
Villain
Film; The Lion King
Character; Scar voiced by Jeremy Irons
Scar from Lion King is one of my all time favourite villains. Voiced deliciously by the legend that is Jeremy Irons, Scar lives and breaths jealousy and hate, over shadowed by his badass brother. Scar committed an act with remains unchallenged as the most damaging thing for a young child to see; he pushed Mustafa to his death. "Long live the king"- instantly quotable and hugely emotional.
RUIVERSE
Hero
Show; Goosebumps
Character; Matthew Barber written by Sam Winchester
Matthew is a dude. He's the Harry Potter that Harry Potter should have been. Matthew's almost macabre obsession of the weird and wonderful horror shows, films, comics and generally all things horror make him perfectly educated to fight it in the town of Winna Bow. But it's his secret compassion and big mushy heart which drive him as a character. Like most heroes he can be stubborn and strong willed but that only makes me love him more. Any good hero needs a motivational boost to really step up, and like any good hero that came on the form of Matthew losing his mentor and father figure; Nathan. I don't think Matthew has been quite the same since. He's certainly become a lot more cautious of the people around him who he loves, almost as if he is scared of more loss.
Villain
Show; Real Fantasy
Character; Cassandra written by Kurai
Cassandra from Real Fantasy. Part of her charm was her ambiguity. Is she evil? Are her intentions good? Selfish? What was her end game? These questions drove Real Fantasy II for 18 episodes. An evil smile there, a questionable action there was all we had to go on. She often felt bipolar as a character, sometimes switching between conflicting ideals on a whim. "Why yes I will experiment on my son, he doesn't matter. Oh, no I won't experiment on my son, he's my bloody son!" She was delightfully camp with her tea loving and her repeated use of the word; "dear" and had a panto-eque reveal in the musical episode which lead into a stand out moment for the site; Cassandra's song.
