User's Choice AwardsThe User's Choice Awards will provide a more genre-specific awards ceremony for the many shows of RU! The User's Choice Award will pit every show on the RUN, across every genre, against each other. During the first brackets (taking place in August and early September), members of RU will vote for their favourite shows in each category, such as horror, mystery, action-adventure, comedy, shorts and so on. Then during RU Con 2012, the winners of each genre-based category will be put head to head in a final vote to determine the Best of RUN. Winners will receive special prizes and RU Points. EligibilityAll shows will be automatically put up for vote so there's no need for nominations. However only shows that meet the following criteria will be eligible: 1. Only shows/projects created before and up to 31st July 2012 will be eligible. 2. Only shows/projects that have been active since 1st January 2012 will be eligible. "Active" shows are those that have had a new episode/script/film etc released. 3. Only shows that have had more than 1 episode released will be eligible. Therefore, shows that only have a pilot episode available will not be eligible (the exception for this will be Best Pilot category). 4. With regards to projects that do not release several works (e.g. a single standalone film, short or movie), all works released since 1st August 2011 up to 31st July 2012 will be automatically included. Basically if you want your work to be part of the awards make sure it's been active in the last six months and has aired beyond a pilot - this includes any upcoming shows you may have planned. For films etc. that aren't episodic, these must have been created in the past 12 months. CategoriesCategories are still being decided but will include: Best of Horror/Mystery/Drama etc. Best Pilot of 2012 Best Film/Short/Live Action etc. Dates31st July 2012 - End of eligibility period 6th August 2012 - First Brackets 27th August 2012 - Second Brackets (where applicable) 16th September 2012 - Final Brackets/Best of RUN Bracket (during RU Con) 23rd September 2012 - Winners Announced (RU Con Finale)

The eligibility period for these awards is now over.
The polls will go up within the week.
If anybody feels particularly strongly about a category we should have then please say so sooner rather than later ^^

So there aren't character polls (Best Lead Male/Female and Best Supporting Lead/Female)? That's a little disappointing, though I do see why you'd like to keep things more general... Could you try and find a way that could fit in? I think character polls would be fun. Like the leads of each show would be in most cases pretty self-explanatory, and then maybe the writer chooses a character to represent each supporting category and then the users vote between each category.
Like, for example we'd have all of the Action/Adventure genre's Supporting Male nominees in one poll stacked up against each other, and then in the end there's a Best Supporting Male & Female Character representing Horror, one pair for Drama, one pair for Action/Adventure, one pair for Films, etc. Maybe even pit the final pair for Male & Female against each other and then just have one set "Supporting Character" and "Lead Character" category, regardless of gender, remaining in the end when we pit each genre against each other?

Hopefully there's more depth to this award ceremony, like I respect a lot of people's work around here regardless of how much I make fun of it/don't review it but it does make me cringe to see projects with one or two pieces of work nommed for 'best lead' or 'best episode' when it hasn't really got anything to compare itself to.
Looking forward to it!

No, tbh, this isn't happening because it relies on you guys to actually get in touch with me beforehand and nominate stuff. The whole point of these awards is that there is no nominating - every show, assuming it is active, is automatically a nominee, with no hassle, no faffing, and no extra work on anybody's part. Waiting for people to nominate quite honestly makes it a drag and takes the fun out of it. I may consider the lead role thing though, but these awards are genre-based. The categories of "Best Male Lead" etc were already covered in The Rightees. To clarify, the plan was always: The Rightees = general more-traditional awards ceremony with a wide range of categories. User's Choice Awards = genre-specific heats to determine the best show on RUN as voted for by the user base. Edit I'm currently putting this together, and there are over 50 shows going head-to-head.

One thing I'd be interested to know the general opinion of... with regards to shorts and live action... This caused quite a bit of uproar last time when they weren't included, but there's only 1 nominee in each category. There's Erebus for live action and The RU Mini Series for shorts...
Whilst I was hoping to include a Best Short/Live Action category this time, that doesn't really look possible.
Should I simply have the people behind this choose a more specific genre for their work to compete in instead?

Do you guys want to choose a genre to place these shorts in? I would go with RU Series as Comedy, Erebus as Horror or Mystery and ORCUS as.. well I have no idea?
