Pitch A Pilot Contest
What Is It? Below you will be given several themes. Choose 1 of them and pitch a pilot based around that theme. Your pitch must follow the template below. Please PM your Pilot Pitch to me. All entries will remain anonymous, and will be voted on by the community, as well as 3 independent judges, to determine the winner.
Simple! =)
Step 1 – Choose a Theme:
THE HERO’S JOURNEY
LOVE
REVENGE IS A DISH BEST SERVED COLD
Step 2 – Pitch Your Pilot:
Fill in the following template and PM it to me. Keep it anonymous.
Title: The title of your series (this cannot be the same as the theme) Genre: The genre Logline: A single sentence that describes your series – this is the pitch, the hook, the most important sentence you'll ever write for your series! Series Summary: A brief summary of the series. Keep it short and concise. The Cast: List your main character(s). No more than 5.
The Rules:
* Submit via PM to Kurai. * No more than 1 entry per person. * You cannot use an idea/show currently in use on The RUN. This must be an original idea. That said you can use an idea/show that you may plan on releasing in the future, so long as it is not currently on The RUN you're fine. * Keep your pitch simple, but go wild in terms of the idea itself. Use your imagination! *Closing Date is Wednesday March 13th 2013.
The Prizes:
The winner, as determined by vote, will win an Amazon Gift Card, in the currency of their country, to spend as they wish. The value of the Gift Card will be determined by the number of entries received.
0 – 4 entries: Contest is void and null. 5/6 entries: £15 Amazon Gift Card 7/8 entries: £20 Amazon Gift Card 9/10 entries: £25 Amazon Gift Card 11+ entries: £30 Amazon Gift Card
A runner up will win a £10 Amazon Gift Card if at least 10 entries are received.
Pretty good for a simple pitch!
The Vote:
As well as going up for vote on the forum to the community, the entries will also be voted on by three independent judges who are not a member of RU. That's right, your pitches will be voted on by complete strangers (friends of mine).
Voting will take place in two rounds. The first round will determine the 3 finalists and the second round will determine the winner.

Do we really have to cast? Just naming your main character(s) is fine. The actors who portray them are not required.

I've got too many ideas and I can't choose between them. Why must you limit me from stacking the deck in my favor with multiple entries... oh right, the stacking the deck thing.

I've created a "How To Write A Logline" thread, with this contest in mind. It's a bit wordy, but will hopefully help anybody who might struggle.

Do we really have to cast? Just naming your main character(s) is fine. The actors who portray them are not required. It's better this way, half the time with the Lost casting contests it just ended up going to the actors who appeared in shows that people liked rather than who actually fitted the role or looked the part.

Question: This idea can't be based off a book, right? It needs to be a totally original idea?

I'd assume it can't

But every story stems from some other story right? Nothing is infinitely original, everything is inspired by something, so as long as you make the idea your own and put a huge spin on it, I don't see why not? If you're just going to straight adapt the book into a series, I'd say probably not.
But that's not up to me. Just shooting off my opinion -shrugs- I'm sure Kurai will clear this up ^_^

Do you mean every beginning starts from some other beginnings end, Johno? I think it's fine to take aspects and add your own swerve to it but books are marketed too so i wouldn't be too fond of someone using it direct like if Larry Trotter and the Sociologists Pebble comes up it won't be getting my vote
